Make strides this summer

The summer hols are nearly here. It’s time to take a break from work and look out your flip-flops or hiking boots.

And who could blame you for taking some well-earned R&R, using your holiday time to snooze in a beach hammock or finally go on that wine-tasting trip in Bordeaux?

But if you’re keen to progress your career, the summer also offers the opportunity to boost your chances of landing a new role from [site_name].

And, while they’re important, it’s not only about the mechanics: such as rejuvenating your CV and refreshing your all-important contacts list.

There’s one vital element above all others…yes, the number one thing you need to do is work out what you’re really passionate about.

The good news is you can do this from the comfort of your poolside sun lounger, a kayak in a Norwegian fjord or a bothy in the Scottish Highlands.

To properly ponder life you don’t need guidebooks, the internet or mobile apps: all you need is the space and time to think.

Begin by contemplating what would make you happy at work. After all, the secret to a fulfilled working life is doing what we love.

Perhaps it’s your ambition to be a manager in a global corporation.

Maybe you’d rather work in recruitment, scouting new talent for clients.

Whatever your career aspiration, once you’ve worked out what it is, you can now divert your attention on how to make it happen.

Focus on two areas – where you are now and where you really want to be – then devise a plan on how to make that journey happen.

Reflect on the way you work (the positives and negatives). What could you do to change bad habits that would help you move forward?

Do you have all the relevant qualifications? If not, you’ll need to seek out training and upskill.

Do you have enough experience? Volunteering to try new tasks in your current role will help here.

It’s also important to mentally log your long-term ambitions and goals – how long will you need before you fulfill a personal ambition to move from Admin Assistant to Company Director?

Once you have these elements firmly fixed in your mind, you’re good to go – though not before you enjoy the rest of your holiday, of course!

Once home, not only will you have enjoyed a rejuvenating break, but you’ll have returned with a focus on how to achieve a more enjoyable career – doing work that inspires you every day.

Now pick up your passport to a new career with the latest roles on [site_name].
