It’s the dreaded data-loss. You’ve been clacking away on the keyboard for hours when suddenly…everything disappears. Lost in space.

Thankfully, there are solutions. And while you’re recruiting for new candidates it pays to know ways to back-up data and keep it safe.

 

External Hard-Drives

Yes, it’s the bolt-on everyone needs. All laptops and computers contain internal memory that store data. But in case the software malfunctions, it’s always worth investing in an external hard-drive.

Small, portable, simple to use and usually with more enough storage capacity for a lifetime, an external hard-drive can offer peace of mind.

Some are even wireless now too. So back on up there!

 

Cloud Storage

Increasingly popular, this is the big cyber car park for all your data.

There is a variety of free options available and purchasing more space is relatively inexpensive.

The biggest advantage is the ability to access your data via any computer, laptop or smart device – from anywhere in the world.

Despite some headline-grabbing hacking scandals, end-to-end encryption means your info is pretty secure too.

 

USB Flash Drives

Often no bigger than a keyring, flash drives are a little retro these days but we still think they’re tops.

While storage capacities are typically smaller than external hard-drives, they’re portable and ideal for temporarily housing data.

Just make sure you don’t accidentally leave it in your pocket on laundry day.

 

Paper

Even more retro than the humble USB, printing offers a hard copy of essential documents that can be stored in a secure location of your choice. Paper documents are also necessary for legal purposes in some companies.

Having paper copies is ideal if you need to access info during a power-cut or your device is suddenly on the blink.

It’s not ideal if you’re working with a huge number of documents. Here the solution is to store the bare essentials only – like the draft of your first novel!

 

Regardless of the method, we should all get into the habit of regularly backing up our data.
